What Next Opportunities Fair

What Next Fair image

Help your son or daughter career ahead at the What Next? Opportunities Fair!

Over 60 of the County's major employers, Universities, FE Colleges and 6th Form Colleges will be raising awareness of the opportunities available to young people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire when they converge at this year's What Next? Careers and Opportunities Fair on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7, 2009.

The venue for What Next? is the Harvey Hadden Sports Arena, in Bilborough, Nottingham.

Organised by Aimhigher Nottinghamshire and supported by Connexions Nottinghamshire, this annual event aims to raise young people's aspirations and make them aware of the opportunities available in Nottinghamshire.

Schools have been invited to bring young people along during the day but in the evenings parents and carers are invited to attend and investigate the current opportunities available.

Once again Connexions Nottinghamshire will have a big presence at the fair, with Connexions Advisers on-hand to give young people some valuable careers advice.

On Tuesday 6 October the event will be open to the public from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. And on Wednesday 7 October it will be open from 9.00am to 3.30pm to schools and colleges by preappointment and will once again open to the general public from 5.00pm to 8.00pm.

New Parent Advice Point

‘What Next’ is organised by Aimhigher Nottinghamshire, and is supported by Connexions Nottinghamshire. This event is specifically for you if you are in Years 11, 12 and 13.

Recognising the pivotal role that parents play in supporting their children to plan their future, this year Connexions Nottinghamshire will be hosting a dedicated parent advice point.

At the advice point, parents and carers can have a cuppa and a sit down and talk to one of a team of Connexions Personal Advisers about all the opportunities available to their son or daughter as they plan for life after year 11. Parents will be able to get tailored one-to-one support to help them support their teenager.

The event will also provide the opportunity for parents and carers to meet leading employers from government and private industry and to explore the various education and training options available to your son or daughter.

Parents evenings run from 5pm to 8pm

Last year, over 4,000 parents and carers attended the fair over the 2 evenings. The event will provide an opportunity to explore the range of career options, job opportunities and education choices in Further and Higher Education.
