Results time - don't panic!
Although the summer holidays are now in full swing, August is a nail biting time for many young people and their parents as they wait to receive those all important GCSE exam results.
And with results out on Tuesday 24 August 2010, it’s lucky that Connexions Nottinghamshire is on-hand to offer advice and guidance for that next important step.
Connexions Personal Advisers, PAs, can help young people by discussing the different options available to them in light of their exam results. Connexions Nottinghamshire can also help with advice on job vacancies, college and university issues, grants and benefits.
If you find that your son or daughter hasn’t achieved the grades they needed to take up a college place, don’t worry, there are loads of options to consider including the world of work, apprenticeships, resits or entry 2 employment. Encourage them to check out the advice section on sortitonline

Your son or daughter should also check out MyChoiceNotts. MyChoiceNotts is a website that provides school leavers with many of the post-16 options available to them in Nottinghamshire, whether they’re college courses or training. It even has a ‘FE Clearing’ section, which lists the Further Education courses available in Nottinghamshire.
Connexions Personal Adviser, Rebecca Smith, says: “If you receive your results and they're not what you expected then please don't panic. If you're worried that you may not be able to do what you planned then it's best to talk through your options with someone who has some experience of the system and who can offer you sound advice - a teacher, parent, older brother or sister, or a Connexions Personal Adviser for example. You may still be able to get onto your course and, if not, there are loads of options you can consider“.
If your son or daughter is going into school to collect their results, it's likely that their Connexions Personal Adviser will be available to talk to them. If not, you can contact your local Connexions centre and arrange an appointment.
