Over 60 of the County's major employers, Universities, FE Colleges and 6th Form Colleges raised awareness of the opportunities available to young people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire when they converged at this year's What Next? Careers and Opportunities Fair on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7, 2009.
The venue for What Next? was the Harvey Hadden Sports Arena, in Bilborough, Nottingham.
Organised by Aimhigher Nottinghamshire and supported by Connexions Nottinghamshire, this annual event aims to raise young people's aspirations and make them aware of the opportunities available in Nottinghamshire.
Schools were invited to bring young people along during the day but in the evenings parents and carers were invited to attend and investigate the current opportunities available.
Once again Connexions Nottinghamshire had a big presence at the fair, with Connexions Advisers on-hand to give young people and parents and carers some valuable careers advice.
On Tuesday 6 October the event was open from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. And on Wednesday 7 October it was open from 9.00am to 3.30pm to schools and colleges by preappointment and once again open to the general public from 5.00pm to 8.00pm.
Connexions Parent Advice Point
Each year, the parents evenings get busier and busier. So in order to deal with the volume of young people and their parents and carers who attend in the evening, Connexions Nottinghamshire host a dedicated 'Parent Advice Point.'
At the advice point, parents and carers can have a cuppa and a sit down and talk to one of a team of Connexions Personal Advisers about all the opportunities available to their son or daughter as they plan for life after year 11. Parents were also able to get tailored one-to-one support to help them support their teenager.
The event also provided the opportunity for parents and carers to meet leading employers from government and private industry and to explore the various education and training options available to their son or daughter.
This is an annual event, so check out the Parent Point to save the dates for next year.
