New project launched to help
young people in Mansfield aspire
This week a new project to help young
people in the Mansfield to aspire, achieve and develop their full
potential is launched by Connexions Nottinghamshire.
The Kick if for Mansfield project
launch is taking place on Wednesday July 8 at Mansfield Town
Football Ground.
Kick it for Mansfield is aimed at young
people at risk of dropping out of education and uses sport as a
tool to reignite a passion for learning.
A key objective of the Kick it
programme is to help more young people into education, employment
and training. Using football as the hook, the young people will be
required to attend workshops and training to help them
progress.
The philosophy behind Kick it for
Mansfield is that it also aims to support whole families into
learning and training and help them work towards a better future.
This means the project will also facilitate careers advice and
guidance to any parents and carers who want to improve their skills
or find a job.
Kick it is funded primarily through
Connexions Nottinghamshire, the County’s advice and guidance
service for 13-19 year olds, but substantial financial support has
also come from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, which has
contributed £12,000 and Mansfield Area Strategic Partnership which
has contributed £10,000.
Connexions Nottinghamshire has
commissioned Fundsport UK Ltd to run the project on its behalf and
the local sporting activity company has already committed £6,000 of
additional funding support. The project also has the support of
Nottinghamshire County Council, Mansfield Borough Council,
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, Nottinghamshire Police,
Nottinghamshire Community Safety Trust and Mansfield Town FC.
Young people signed up to the project
have been closely involved in the presentation of the project,
coming up with the name – Kick it for Mansfield – and the logo.
John Endersby, County Operations
Director, Connexions Nottinghamshire, says: “This football project
aims to improve the futures of young people and their families in
Mansfield. By combining sport with education we want to raise the
aspirations of these young people and work together with their
families to help them progress.”
Chief Fire Officer Frank Swann from
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are delighted to
be supporting a project of this nature, which works towards shaping
young people’s futures and engaging them in employment. We
look forward to seeing the results of this scheme in Mansfield and
continuing to work with partners such as Connexions making our
communities in Nottinghamshire safer.”
