Women and child

All young people at school, college or work-based learning provider will have easy access to a Personal Adviser. However, if you have opted to home school your children, you will probably still want them to get good quality careers advice. The good news is that your son and daughter can still use the Connexions service and a Connexions Personal Adviser.

If your son or daughter wants help with planning their progression route into work, work-based learning or further or higher education, they can drop into their local Connexions centre and get some advice and support, or they can call and arrange an appointment with a PA. Connexions Personal Advisers can offer support with any problems or issues your teenager needs help with. They can give advice on careers and education as well as problems such as drugs, housing, money and health.

If you're thinking about educating your son or daughter at home instead of sending them to school Education Otherwise can provide you with information and resources about home education. You can also get help and support to move your teenager from learning at school to learning at home. Find out more by visiting their site at www.education-otherwise.org.uk.

You can find out about your local council's policy and guidance on home education by visiting Nottingham City Council's website if you live in the city or Nottinghamshire County Council's website if you live in the county.

Passportfolio is a website that can help your son or daughter keep a record of everything they have achieved and support them with planning and preparing for their next steps. They can upload photos and videos of anything they are proud of or have taken part in as well as build a CV and write an action plan. The resource is free and can support young people aged between 11 and 25 years old.
