If your son or daughter is in Year 8

Year 8 student leaning on the desk
After or in Year 8 your son or daughter will be making choices that will help them decide which job they might do in the future.

Next or this year they will:

So now’s a good time for you to encourage your son or daughter to start thinking about:

  • Which subjects they enjoy.

  • Which subjects they’re good at.

  • Which subjects they could do better in.

  • Which subjects give them specific skills.

  • What jobs they might be interested in for the future.

  • How your son or daughter prefers to learn

Your son or daughter could earn a little cash

Once your son or daughter is 12, if they want to, they can start thinking about earning a little pocket money. Your son or daughter won't be able to do part-time work until they're 13 but for some jobs such as washing cars, walking the dog or gardening they won’t need a permit.
