The Diploma

You may have heard about the new Diplomas. These Diplomas are being gradually introduced and are only available in some schools.  They are different to GCSEs because they offer a mix of class work with some hands-on learning and experience too. Check whether your son or daughter’s school is offering them and which subjects they are offering.

Diploma subjects which may be available in 2010 are:

  • Construction and the Built Environment

  • Creative and Media

  • Engineering

  • Society, Health and Development

  • Information Technology

  • Business, Administration and Finance

  • Hospitality

  • Environmental and Land-based Studies

  • Hair and Beauty Studies

  • Manufacturing and Product Design

  • Public Services

  • Retail Business

  • Sport and Active Leisure

Diplomas may be taught at your son or daughter’s school or involve going to a college or other place to learn. They will also do a work-based placement.

You can find out more about Diplomas by talking to a Connexions Personal Adviser at your school's parents evenings.
